On the eve of New Year, tourists from neighboring states and surrounding areas arrived in Teerthnagri. In view of New Year’s celebration and tourists’ arrival, all hotels, camps, and resorts were beautifully decorated and were glittering with lights. During the night, tourists were seen gathering at Ganga Ghats and other places to celebrate New Year and celebrate it. Devotees and tourists were present in large numbers on the banks of river Ganga from the morning itself at different Ghats in Rishikesh. People in Muni ki Reti, Lakshmanjhula, Swargashram region dived into the Ganges and visited the monastery temples. On the other hand, in the areas of Tapovan, Shivpuri, Garudchatti, Phulchati etc., hotels and resorts were fully packed by guests.
However, it led to a situation of heavy traffic jam in certain areas of Rishikesh and on the Badrinath National Highway. Tourists and local people suffered till noon due to the jam on the Tapovan, Neergaddu area and upto Lakshmanjhula- Kangdi highway. Although the police had made arrangements to keep the traffic system organized in view of the arrival of tourists to celebrate New Year 2019, due to the large number of tourists’ vehicles, all arrangements for the traffic system were left useless. On the other hand, with the huge inflow of tourists, all the tourists and religious places of pilgrimage were seen crowded. The large number of tourists made the local businesses very happy.
